My beach and sea photography sessions are designed for families who feel drawn to natural light, open space and the calming presence of the sea.

Maternity sessions are usually photographed between 28–34 weeks, when your bump is beautifully defined and you are still comfortable enough to enjoy being outdoors.
These sessions are especially popular with first-time mums who want something meaningful, gentle and quietly beautiful.
Newborn beach photography (weather & baby-led)
For families who love the coast, I also offer newborn beach photography for babies who are a little older and settled.
These sessions are:

Family beach photography
Beach sessions are also a wonderful option for family photography, especially for families with older babies or young children.

Having a family beach photoshoot was a new experience for us…..what to wear, was our little man going to be in a good mood, how would we look on camera etc? Well, any preconceived thoughts or worries were quickly banished on meeting Julie at our chosen location.
Julie was friendly and patient, kind and funny, and got the smiles from all of us that were needed to create such wonderful memories.
Our beach shoot was such great fun and captured our little boys happiness and cheekiness so accurately. We were delighted with results and will most definitely be back in a few years for her to capture our little chap growing up.

A phone call or WhatsApp video chat to discuss your photoshoot.
Your portrait photoshoot will be scheduled (weather permitting).
Posed and natural images will be taken.
In person viewing up to a week after the shoot are held in my Southampton studio. If you live a good distance away this can be done by a live online appointment instead.

When is the best time to book a beach photoshoot?
Once you have decided to have a beach photoshoot, get in touch as soon as possible to discuss availability and your preferred dates.
When is the best time of day for a beach photoshoot?
Beach photoshoots are best shot between April and right up until the end of October. Mornings between 8-11 am or later in the early evening from around 6-9 pm are the best timings. The shooting time of day is crucial for lovely soft sunlight. Ideally, the weather needs to be slightly overcast and not bright sunshine (as many believe).
Golden hour shots are shot between 8-9 pm. This is where we will have that beautiful, golden, soft, flattering light.
What should we wear for our beach photoshoot?
I will send you a complete colour and clothing guide to help you pre-arrange your family’s clothing. I have a maternity wardrobe that you are very welcome to use. We can exchange clothing ideas over a WhatsApp video call.
It is very important to avoid logos and lots of stripes and patterns, etc, as these can detract from the subject (you and your children) and capturing your family’s connection in your images.
